about

“Irrepressible... cerebral... approachable... The music, full of positive vibes, serves as hope for a better world.” -- Dan McClenaghan, All About Jazz (June 2, 2023)

Cautiously Optimistic is a suite of eleven original compositions--nine by David Borgo, and one each by Justin Grinnell and Alan Eicher--reflecting on the post-pandemic (endemic?) moment. The performances range from the rambunctious to the contemplative, featuring David Borgo on tenor and soprano saxophones, concert, bass, and Irish flutes, alto clarinet, and wind synthesizer. The phenomenally creative rhythm section includes Alan Eicher on piano, Peter Sprague guesting on guitars, Justin Grinnell on acoustic bass, and Julien Cantelm on drum set. Come enjoy our cautiously optimistic musical journey together!
